The Beast

I mentioned a couple of months ago that a feral cat had taken up residence on my back patio; when the weather turned cold I built a shelter, as well.

Even allowing for a winter coat she sports quite a paunch; I find it hard to believe I am the only one feeding her.

I eventually started moving her food indoors, she’ll come in to eat if the door is left propped open for her to leave at will.

If it’s dry food in a dish she will stay and eat; if it’s a small can she will somehow bite the can up and take it outside.

Does that qualify as takeout?

You can see that the door has to be propped open a good little bit for her to squeeze in; it makes for quite a draft.

She almost always sits between me and the door so if I make a move towards the door, out she goes.

Twice she wandered in far enough at night for me to shut the door behind her and I went to bed.

It took a broom to get her out the next morning.

When she wants in we will meow at each other on both sides of the closed glass door till I give in.

Once inside with food, if I meow at her, she looks blankly at me, I can tell she is thinking, “You’re such a moron and a pushover — I got what I want, please leave me alone.”

Too proud to meow.
