FDNY: So Quit Already
A Once-In-A-Lifetime Opportunity
In a “I’ll take my toys and go home” tantrum, FDNY firefighters say they will quit the job rather than take the Covid-19 vaccine.
Andy Ansbro, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association of New York (UFA), “warned that a substantial number would quit their jobs”, according to the The Chief Leader.
FDNY Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro supports a vaccine mandate meaning a showdown is likely.
Covid-19 is a health catastrophe, including in the U.S., where 726,000 people have died.
Vaccines have proven to be stunningly effective and are FDA approved.
The “tip jar” of vaccine refusal reasons is a dark and nutty place where childlike egos rule.
In each and every case, the refuser puts their own desires above the needs of those around them.
Before vaccines, it was (and still is) refusing to wear a mask.
Refusing to comply represents some kind of personal victory which seems to have moral and political implications, as if exposing others to a lethal disease was a noble act.
Some say vaccine requirements are an assault on union rights but that’s laughable or worse.
Unions exist to protect workers and condoning vaccine refusal is a failure of union leadership, plain and simple.
Famously, Zappos, the online retailer, pays people to leave the company if they are not happy.
Nigro should, too.
He should offer a “departure bonus” of $1,000 to every FDNY member who refuses the vaccine and resigns.
Covid-19 vaccine refusal is a 100% indicator of the type of person who should not be in fire and EMS work.
A vaccine mandate effectively culls the herd.
Take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and hire replacements from an eligibility list that stretches to the thousands.
New hires must be vaccinated, of course.
Cheers and be well.
